Village Museum Sibiu – Astra

THE `ASTRA` MUSEUM OF TRADITIONAL FOLK CIVILIZATION – or The Open Air Museum is situated in the natural reservation of Dumbrava Sibiului, on the road to Rasinari village, about 10 kilometers away from the Sibiu city center.

The Museum spreads across a 96 ha area being the largest open air ethnographic exhibition in Europe. Inaugurated in 1963 under the name of the Museum of Folk Technics, the museum currently has over 300 monuments of folk architecture and technique as mills, the wooden churches, and the traditional homesteads. The total of alleys measures 10 km!!! be ready for a long walking.

The museum hosts many traditional events such as: traditional fairs, folk festivals, workshops and performances.

The traditional religious function is kept for one wooden church.

I visited it on end of October 2018, an a cloudy day, not happy for may camera but very happy for my soul. It was a perfect life experience to remember our history in peasant’s architecture coming from XVII century.

Please, enjoy it!
